I am a NYC Photographer and Lifestyle Blogger. I have had many blogs in the pass but never clicked the “public” button and eventually those blogs died off. I am now coming out of my shell as a way to share what I have to say with the world. I started the blog as a way to display my photography and tell stories that can inspire young women. I want a platform that would give the writer in me a voice and also show my creative side as I continue to pursue my Masters of Fine Arts in Photography.

This blog is for the modern woman who is on the come up.

Short Hair Again, But Why?

I celebrated my 7 year natural hair journey on June 16, 2019 and I couldn’t be happier. I had buzz cut my hair June 16, 2012 and loved every minute of it.

I enjoyed relearning my hair as I had a perm throughout high school and a little in college. I had fun with my hair - I had pinup curls, flat twist, a blow out I did myself with no heat damage and a bunch of other hairstyles I made up and tucked and pinned myself. So what made me decide to revisit short hair? Well! The answer is simple - I want low maintenance hair. I want to not have to think about doing my hair once I am ready to go out the door.

I am turning a year wiser this year and closer to 30 and I find myself needing things to be as painless as possible. While I am thankful and grateful for my hair I released that I was not giving her the attention, time, and care that she needed to thrive and that was selfish of me to continue on this path knowing that I would not fully attend to her needs. My hair took about an hour and 30-mins to wash and about 12 plus hours to fully dry and after that I was not in the mood to twist it - so most days, I would just moisturize and put it in 4 big twist until I found the energy to deal with it further. I also did not wash as often because having my hair in twist was perfect. After careful back and forth with myself and what I needed the best decision was to go low.

Having low maintenance hair is fun - there are colors I can add which will cost significantly less compared to the prices I paid to get my hair flat twisted. I can add cut designs if I so choose. There is a bunch I can do to with my barely there hair before I decide to grow her back longer.

So having short hair right now is the best decision for me and on top of all the time I will utilize somewhere else, I will be getting more sleep (not really, but I like to think so).
